This unit is mainly about how to teach receptive skills to students-reading and listening. These two skills are equally essential when learning a new language. Hence, it is of utmost importance that any EFL teacher must be able to teach such skills effectively to their students. A teacher must consider some factors before choosing any authentic or unauthentic material for the students to practice their receptive skills. Factors such as the interests of the students, their level of comprehension and teachability can greatly influence the selection of material used for reading. Therefore, it is important that the teacher knows his or her students well enough before choosing any material for the lesson. This unit has taught me that I need to work on getting to know my students better and not just select material that interests me to improve on future reading and listening activities.
