In this unit we studied conditionals and their various forms. As with many uses of the English language, a large number of native speakers use these forms instinctively, but may not have the exact knowledge of their forms or terminology. However, an ESL teacher must understand their use to be able to teach them to ESL learners.
We also studied reported speech, which is when one person is stating what a different person is saying or has said. It is also vital that an ESL teacher have a precise understanding of these forms, as there are a great deal of changes that happen in reported speech.
In this unit I feel I have learned about the various forms of conditionals and their usages, and about how speech changes from direct to reported. I have also learned valuable teaching strategies and ideas to assist me teach these difficult concepts to ESL learners.
