Reading and Listening (called Receptive Skills) are two of the four basic language skills (Reading ? Listening ? Speaking ? Writing). We read and listen for purpose reasons or for entertainment.
Reading and Listening do not only require our eyes and ears but also our minds and various specialist skills such as Predicting, Scanning, Skimming, Detailing and Deducting.
To reduce problems with Learners? comprehension while teaching receptive skills, various techniques must be used by the teacher, such as choosing the right selection of text or dialogue, pre-teach vocabulary, opt for an interesting topic to motivate the learners and gain their enthusiasm.
