Speaking and writing are considered as productive skills, both require different teaching methodologies and pose different pedagogical difficulties. Speaking commands a certain level of fluency while writing requires a great degree of accuracy. Both of which can only be acquired through regular practice. To increase fluency in speaking, it is the teacher?s responsibility to design lessons that will not only arouse interest in students and maximize their talk time, but also present the opportunity to practice speaking in controlled, guided and creative-speaking situations. As for writing, many of the same principles can be applied but students can only benefit from exposure to varying patterns, rules, techniques and themes of writing. In order to encourage desire or need to write, and to increase accuracy in wiring, a teacher will want to ensure that she/he is giving students practice in all areas of creative writing.
