This Unit on Past Tenses covers the four forms: simple past, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. Simple patterns of the past tenses include the fact that continuous forms all contain the verb \"to be\" (plus the \"ing\" form of the verb) in either the present or past form, depending on whether it is the present or past continuous form, whilst the past perfect has some form of the verb \"to have\" plus a past participle. The Unit helpfully points out that the same principles apply to the future tenses as well. The Unit also contains information on usages, common mistakes and suggestions for teaching in the activate stage.
