A teacher will come across a class either for the first time as a new group where students have never met before or additionally as an existing group where students are familiar with one another. A teacher must always aim to establish rapport between students and the teacher; discover details about the students to plan for future classes; find out about students needs with English language; and interpret the level of each individual class member. Teachers can apply several activities for the above mentioned purposes including questionnaires/survey, use of board games, passing of a soft ball, or needs analysis.
