This unit explained the different future tenses. In all there are 7 common tenses and aspects can be used to express future meanings. These are future simple, future continuous, future perfect, future perfect continuous, going to future as well as the aspects of present simple aspects simple present and present continuous. Most of these tenses can be used to express predictions, except present continuous. This aspect is used for definite arrangements and plans without a time frame. Future simple (will) can be used for spontaneous decisions and predictions without evidence while going to future expresses decisions already made and predictions with evidence. Expressing how long something will have continued by a certain time is done with future perfect continuous (often with the adverbial expression 'by') while future perfect is used to tell that something will have finished by a certain time in the future. Finally future continuous is used to indicate and predict an action in progress in the future as well as decided or fixed future events while present simple is used for formal and impersonal events, timetables and schedules.
