This unit explained the usage of various materials in the classroom. The unit identified the different types of authentic materials (newspapers, songs, poems, magazines, brochures, and menus) and created materials (flashcards, crosswords, word searches, picture stories, role-play cards, and games). The unit also outlined the advantages and disadvantages of using different types of materials. The second half of this unit instructed the best use of course books in the classroom. The unit also acknowledged the pros and cons of using course books to teach English. In conclusion, I now have a better understanding on how to use a range of different types of materials to execute more successful classes.
