Unit 19 discussed some of the different groups an ESL teacher might encounter. The unit covers teaching beginners, children, individual lessons and business oriented learners. Some aspects of teaching/lesson planning are similar with each group,i.e. determining levels of the learners, determining their interests. But, each group comes with its own special challenges and considerations. Some of these considerations could include motivation levels, age specific challenges or occupation specific language needs, to name a few. I very much liked some of the practical lessons taught in this unit. Advice, like being on time, knowing ahead of time what resources will be provided, getting phone numbers when teaching individuals, etc., is very appreciated. I have taught, to some degree, all of above groups, except for business related. It is true that different groups need to be approached with different considerations.
