In Unit 13: Coursebooks & Lesson materials I was reminded how helpful it is to use course books in class, but also to be aware use supplemental books or to develop other materials to offer balance in lessons. Whereas using lesson books is helpful to provide a structure and a syllabus to follow, it doesn't always fully support the students where they are. Sometimes it is necessary to create lessons, role-plays, flashcards or other material to help the students understand the lesson more. A wise teacher will work her lessons to her students' needs, and also will bring in authentic materials, such as a newspaper or radio transcript, to allow the students the opportunity to understand from real-life examples. A good teacher knows how to use produced material, combine them with other materials, or make their own.
