This unit describes the difficulties that may be encountered in teaching English as a second language. Those difficulties could arise from class sizes, unwilling student, learners at different levels, student reverting to L1 or problems with particular disciplines such as listening skills. The unit gives handy tips on how the teacher should cope with these scenarios. I was rather impressed by the section on first lessons for new groups as opposed to existing groups. When I started I had both of these types of groups and only my training in presentation and life experience to fall back on. I am pleased to say that my instincts served me well and I used the first lesson with each group to get to know the students and let the students get to know me while assessing their individual level. I wish I had had access to this unit at the time.
