Continual evaluation throughout the learning process is vital for both the teacher and the student. For the teacher it provides important information on how to best serve the students' learning needs. For students it gives objective information on level and progression, which in turn fuels motivation and confidence. Placement, diagnostic, progress and practice are four areas of testing and evaluation that provide a map and direction for students and teachers alike. Evaluation can be performed as formal tests or as games and exercises, whichever is deemed appropriate by the teacher and/or the educational institution.
