Testing and evaluating are important for the teacher so they know where the students knowledge and fluency are at and they can design their lessons accordingly and they are also important for the student so they have feedback on what the know and what they need to study more of. It is important for students to give teachers feedback as to what is working for them and what they feel might be needed more of to achieve their goals. There are a variety of kinds of tests used for different areas of study. Placement tests tell us the students level. Diagnostic tests tell us what he student knows and doesn't know. Progress test help us know what is remembered or forgotten in reading writing, speaking and listening. Practice tests help student get ready for the final exam. There are a variety of final exams that can be taken for general English knowledge, tests for getting into university or English business test. They include TOEFL, IELTS, and the Cambridge Assessments- KET, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE are for elementary up to advanced knowledge.
