Teaching special groups may require \"outside the box\" approaches, in terms of pedagogy. One should take the time to research the needs, expectations and demands of each of the various special groups. If one were to successfully complete a course with a special group, it is likely that that success will translate into better overall pedagogy. As a result of learning how to successfully handle the \"extreme\" groups, one should be \"over-qualified\" to handle the \"standard\" ESL classes. In a way, though it may be extremely challenging, it may be better for a new teacher to engage in the challenge of teaching special groups.
