This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 was about how to manage a class. We reviewed various aspects of the art of classroom management. The main points we learned about were; body langauge and verbal communication techniques that the teacher should and should not use, grouping students in a tactical manner, seating Arrangements, teacher talk time, giving instructions, and rapport with students. When discussing body language and verbal communication of the teacher I learned that eye contact, gestures, voice, and using students names should all be employed appropriately for the best teaching results. Various ways of grouping students and choosing seating arrangements has an impact on individual learning experience. Teacher Talk Time should be neither over used not under used. While giving instructions the teacher should use language that is of a lower level than what is being taught to ensure that all students can understand and feel encouraged to learn. In conclusion - have fun, don't make it too complicated, and be cool.
