As a native speakers, we tend to over complicate instructions because we want everything to be completely understood. For learners however it is much better to use simple language so that the exercise is understood.
Maintaining discipline can be very difficult when your natural style doesn't connect with a student, or the student has no interest in being in the lesson at all. Building some rapport is the easiest way to fix this issue, but it takes time so quick methods are needed while this rapport is being built.
