This unit examines the differences in approach while teaching lessons focused on either grammar, vocab, or language function. The elements of this unit tie back in to unit 3 where the \"engage, study activate\" lesson structure was introduced. I learned that for more simple grammar and vocab a 'straight arrow' lesson is more appropriate while function-based lessons have more success when taught with 'boomerang' or 'patchwork' lessons. I was able to reflect on the vocabulary and grammar lessons of my past language teachers and think about what did and did not work and the reasons behind why. This unit also gives many useful examples on exercises that work best with vocab and grammar based lessons based on the phase of the lesson you are in (engage, study or activate.)
