This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
From this unit I learned that we can assess student's language level through tutorials, students evaluation of the course and tests. I learned that tutorials are useful to review what students have already studied and to remember the learning goals of the lessons during the course, also that students should evaluate the language course to ensure they are in the appropriate level and that they are learning all the basic skills efficiently, and lastly, that tests are also important to evaluate students progress. Tests can be short, long, formal or even an activity.
I also learned that there are many types of test that are used for different purposes: placement tests, with a written and a spoken component, will give us a good idea of what the students level is and will help us decide what textbook or group is according to his/her level. Progress tests will help students remember what has been taught and wht needs to be studied more. Progress tests should evaluate all skills (speaking, writing, reading and listening). Diagnostic tests are similiar to placement tests but more extensive and Practice tests will help students prepare for external exams, therefore, they should follow their stucture and format.
There are many kinds of external examinations like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, etc.
Finally, Cambridge Assesment, that has different types of exams like KET, PET, FCE, CAE and CPE for general English; ESOL for skills in life; and BEC and BULATS for buisiness English.
