From this unit I have learned about receptive learning skills, which are reading and listening and productive skills which are writing and speaking. All four are equally important and should be treated as such when teaching English. I also learned about how to select material for the class depending on the intent of the lesson and skills you are trying to develop for the students. Examples of writing to use are directions to a place, a sports news article, a novel and a horoscope section of a newspaper. People receive these literature types differently and this should be incorporated and considered when teaching a new language.
