This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit revolved around the teaching of specialty classes such as beginners, business, individuals, children, and multilingual groups. For each of these classes various techniques and methods should be practiced when teaching. In a class with varying levels of beginners a teacher must adhere to special skills and psychology such as pacing the lessons to fit the needs of the students. In contrast, when teaching individual students a completely different method must be approached. Usually a student seeks a learning experience geared towards their specific needs as opposed to a large class. As a teacher in the position of only this one student, they must understand what the needs of the student are and build lessons off that.
The teaching methods must again change when teaching children. This involves a much more slower approach both in language and in lesson planning. The children must be met with repetition and unending positive support when language has been understood. In a business English class, teachers should again get to know their students individual needs and stress the importance of the individual students success to further motivate the students to perform. Finally in a Multilingual class setting more stress should be put in evenly addressing the class so the lessons can be understood throughout.
