This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit provided me with the newest information so far. I have a little experience with general classroom teaching and grammar, but the theories, methods, and techniques. I thought that while the information regarding the different teaching practices was interesting and will definitely be important, I really appreciated the applicable instruction on the Engage, Study, and Activate part of the chapter. Learning about the different techniques for teaching, when and how to use them, and why they are beneficial was very helpful. In the past, I have played different games with ESL students without really knowing why. Now that I have learned the importance and the different ways of structuring the lessons, (Boomerang, Straight, or Patchwork) all the different activities make sense and I can understand why it is that they are important. This will help me in the future build intentional lesson plans.
