This video lesson provided an example of effective and ineffective teaching. It was plain to see that the way a teacher approaches the classroom has a significant effect on the attitude and success of his or her students. A teacher's enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment to the class can make the difference in the extent to which students will participate in the class and engage with (and ultimately learn) the material. It was useful to see the myriad ways in which the first lesson depicted a disengaged teacher. For example, the way he would talk facing the board with his back turned to the class. In addition, his inflexibility in changing his approach when it was clear from students' responses that they didn't understand what he was looking for. In the second lesson, the teacher was well prepared, used multiple methods for engaging students, and, perhaps most importantly, was very respectful of his students.
