This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered Pronunciation and Phonology. I found this unit to be fairly difficult, because I was not formerly familiar with the phonemic alphabet. I learned in this unit, that while this particular aspect of language is probably one of the least covered in class, it is very important. Pronunciation can be difficult in English, because there are so many homonyms. The phonetic alphabet can be particularly helpful, when students look up an English word in the dictionary. I also learned that stress, both on certain words in a sentence and on certain syllables within a word, can be fairly complex and also should be covered in the classroom. As a native speaker, these are things that I do not normally worry about, so this was a eyeopener section for me.
