This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When teaching new language, it is really important students understand how to use the new vocabulary, grammar and sentence structures that they are taught and not worry too much about the origins of said structures. Having said that, one point the text makes is that students don't need to know how often a word is used in common language, but I do think that is actually important for students to know. From my own experience teaching ELL students, some students will try so hard to use their new vocabulary that they use it awkwardly in situations where it does not belong. They should be somewhat aware of the situations where the word can be used and whether or not it is a common word in the English language.
