This unit emphasizes the importance of productive skill.
Productive skill is composed of speaking and writing. Where speaking is more concerned with the fluency of language, writing emphasizes on accuracy.
Productive skill is needed to communicate via orally or in written format. Usually, to acquire specific information, to express a personal opinion, to express certain findings and exchanging ideas.
According to the ESA teaching method. Study phase is taught by emphasizing writing skill and drilling activity to deepen the language understanding into the student. Later, we transition from accuracy centered activity to fluency centered activity by allowing the students to freely express or engage with other students within an established context.
Teachers can strive to teach both writing and fluency by preparing a game. The game should incorporate writing and speaking activities.
As an example game, I personally would split the class in two groups. The two groups will face each other, the group at the front will be given some blank papers and instruct to write an adjective to describing the picture of an animal that I hold while standing behind the other group. Once the group facing those with paper guess the animal correctly, their position switches. This way, both groups get to practice their writing skill and speaking skill respectively.
