This unit covers productive skills, which are speaking and writing.
Compared to receptive skills, productive skills are more active in that they seem to require more practical activities for their utilisation and improvement. Emphasising the difference between fluency and accuracy is meaningful for me because I have to strike the balance between them with my students. It is good to know that there are different activities that can be used to focus on either or both at the same time.
Both units, receptive and productive skills, emphasise the importance of integrated English lessons for me.Watching these two contrasting videos really highlights the importance of teacher attitude. Teacher attitude can completely influence the students behavior and ability to understand the lesson in a large way. Many students that are intimated will not reach out for help for fear of making mistakes. A simple smile from the teacher creates a safe atmosphere and allows for student engagement. It's always important to provide clear examples and to describe the lesson prior to eliciting responses from students, so they have a clear framework and understanding of what is expected of them in class.
