1. Overview of Unit 11
Unit 11 focus on the receptive skills - listening and reading.The reasons for reading and listening (purpose or entertainment) and the skills that influence understanding of the context when reading or listening are given. These skills are: predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from context. Different problems with listening and reading and how to address it are discussed. An outline of a typical receptive skills lesson is given in the written material and examples of typical lessons are demonstrated in the video.
2. What I learnt
This unit makes me attentive to incorporate the receptive skills (listening and reading) as well as the productive skills (speaking and writing) in a practical way in lessons. The ways of approaching language difficulties are valuable information. The examples of typical lessons are practical and really important for me. Tasks 6 and 7 are motivating and useful in putting the learnt material in practice.
