Lesson planning is not mandatory for teachers but it is necessary for inexperienced teachers as it helps them to be flexible and be able to deal with unforeseen problems that may arise during the course of their teaching. Too much planning makes the lessons mostly teacher centered but as a teacher you should be flexible by probably making notes during lessons and/or completing lesson plan forms. Planning lessons has important functions as it gives the teacher keep on target and a reference material during the lesson. It also serves as a tracking record of what has been done and materials used over a period of time and if another teacher is to cover for you, he/she will have a fair idea on what to do. When planning a lesson a number of issues must be considered such as flexibility, goals of the lesson, revision and having variety and balance. A well planned lesson should comprise of the ESA lesson structure so as to be able to gain full corporation and attention of the class.
