This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit stressed the importance of lesson planning prior to teaching a class. The unit gave an example of what a lesson plan might consist of and how to appropriately fill it out to be prepared for a class. The unit also provided a sample of an ESA Patchwork lesson plan to further express the importance of planning a lesson ahead of time. In addition, this unit supplied a blank sample lesson plan so that I could begin practicing how to develop my own lesson plans. In conclusion, I can now more comfortably formulate a lesson plan using both the ESA Straight Arrow and ESA Patchwork methods. This unit covers pronunciation of the English language. While pronunciation is often overlooked in English language course, an effective teacher considers pronunciation an integral part in learning a language. Intonation, stress, the phonemic alphabet and symbols, and articulation should be taught using vocal or written examples. Peer diction is effective in helping students analyze pronunciation problems for themselves. Using your own mouth as an example of how to form the words is also helpful. Drawing diagrams of the mouth, using phonemes, and practicing tongue twisters are also helpful.
