Unit fourteen covered course books and lesson materials. We learned that there are two groups of materials used in the classroom setting and they are authentic and created. Authentic material examples are news paper articles, brochures,films and video Where created materials are created by the teacher to enhance or replace materials in a course book.These can be word search puzzles, crosswords, role-play cards, flash card, etc.
We also learned that course books are not a panacea to teaching English. They have there advantages and dis advantages. Course books provide many things like a balance of study, a syllabus, tested teaching methods and students can see the progression. They also do not offer flexibility and may not be suitable for some student because they are written for a general group.
Teachers also have four options to use with course books omit materials, replace materials, supplement to the materials as needed by students and adapt using same basic materials but in the teacher own way.
