In this Unit i undertand perfectly why ESL students might find english phonology a lot challenging. This topic requires a very regular indepth understanding of the step by step guidelines of phonetics. There are many ways to get students actively engaged in activities involving phonemes. I think the best way therefore is the listening and speaking along as that has worked for me a countless times. As it might prove difficult for students who have no previous phonetics knowledge to pick up a dictionary and begin to study how words are pronounced. This phonology should be taught as a totaly independent topic on its own considering the fact that it has its own recognized alphabets.
