Unit 18 covered modal and phrasal verbs, passive versus active voice, and relative clauses. Again with this unit, I could see just how difficult learning English could be for some non-native speakers and the special care that teachers of English as a foreign language must take to avoid muddying the waters. Phrasal verbs struck me as a particularly daunting minefield, with three types all needing slightly different treatment and the fact that some of the phrases themselves, like catch up, get over it, turn up, and shut up, make no literal sense. The idea of using a driving role-play to teach phrasal verbs seems like it would be highly effective and memorable, and I would think mastery over some of those verbs would make students very proud of their accomplishment.
