This unit focuses on productive skills, which are speaking and writing. Generally, students prefer to focus on their speaking skills, but their writing skills shouldn't be ignored. Especially since writing is the more difficult skill and requires a greater degree of accuracy. Speaking requires a greater degree of fluency. While accuracy and fluency carry equal importance, they utilize different techniques and focus on different areas as well as occurring during different stages in the lesson. There are other differences between writing text and speaking, such as grammar and vocabulary.
This unit also gave tips on how to encourage students to interact with their teacher and classmates, such as having controlled and guided practice prior to fluency activities. Games that have been adapted to language teaching are also helpful in fostering communication as well as providing language practice and they should be considered an integral part of the syllabus.
