In Unit 7 I have begun to develop a more nuanced application process of the ESA formatted lesson planning structure. Using functions, grammar, and vocabulary, this unit gave me great insight on how variations on Engage, Study, and Activate can color a classroom activity. It also solidified the selective process in which activities fall into the subset of the three before-mentioned categories.
The most important part of this Unit was the breakdown of what to look for when presenting vocabulary, grammar, and functions. I say this because it is always important to find the appropriate lesson for a learning level. Sometimes finding the right activity can be limited by the vocabulary accessible to the students, and which language functions can correlate with the vocabulary and grammatical root system that is established. In this regard, I learned a new word today: appropriacy.
