The unit gave two examples of teaching styles and student engagement. In the first video the teacher continued to stress how easy the language structure was making the students uncomfortable to participate or to ask question for fear of being wrong. The teacher did not know the names of the students and didn't make an attempt to get to know them or to create a comfortable learning space.
In the second video the teacher began the lesson by greeting the students and going around the room to learn the names of the students. His demeanor was more friendly and welcoming which allowed the students to be more engaged.
The unit shows how the teacher can set the tone and atmosphere for effective or ineffective learning.
