This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
It was shocking to see first video with a teacher who behaved absolutely inappropriate (not friendly, not smiling, no introduction, no eye-contact, no gestures, no students? names, speaks fast and not clear, etc.); also I felt pity for students who were obviously intimidated and shy. But second video was absolutely opposite positive and encouraging! What a pleasure to see that students wanted to attend and participate, they felt comfortable and interested during the lesson. Second video is a very good example of effective ESA lesson. Some of the most common specialized groups that sooner or later teachers may have to work with are:
- Beginners. These can be sub-divided into the following categories: false beginners, absolute beginners, young beginners, adult beginners, beginners without Roman alphabet.
- Individual students.
- children.
- groups that learn English for specific purposes/business English.
- multilingual or monolingual groups.
As the requirements, motivation, level and background will vary, teachers will have to adapt their classes to fit each group.
