I learned the differences in the structure of vocabulary lessons and that of grammar lessons. I learned that I should limit how much information I give to the students, like for example, I should not give extra information about the origin of a word when that is not needed for the comprehension. I should definitely not tell the students how common the sentence pattern or vocabulary word is in daily speech or writing because that may cause the students to not pay as much attention to it which will lead to them forgetting it very quickly.My college voice and speech teacher would kill me if she ever found out how far my phonetic skills have fallen. That being said, taking 4 years of voice and speech, and 2 years of accents and dialects in school has given me a bit of a head start on phonetics and how the mouth works to make sounds. I think that the challenge here (and what this unit has helped me to work on) is developing strategies to teach others what I am doing as a native speaker and to be able to articulate whatever knowledge I have into helpful, effective advice.
