This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 11 separates receptive skills from productive skills, creating focus on the skills of reading and writing. It may seem as if these skills are a given when learning language, but this unit importantly outlines the ways in which we use reading and listening skills, and how they contribute to language learning in the classroom. Predictive skills, scanning, skimming, finding detailed information, and deduction are inferred skills of native English speakers, but the way Unit 11 explicitly explains each shows how each is paramount to student language uptake. The suggestions for choosing topics, creating interest, selecting tasks, and facing difficulties in language are useful because they instigate deeper thought about how students will view learning materials, not merely how instructors understand the lessons.
