Unit 13 discusses a neglected aspect of teaching which is pronunciation. This unit overviews where the stress of both words and inside sentences go. Words with different numbers of syllables have stresses on different syllables of the word. Also where the stress of the word in the sentence also changes. The volume and pitch or intonation of the sentence generally rises and then drops. For longer sentences in speech or questions which the speaker will rhetorically answer the intonation can rise or rise-fall-rise. The words themselves can be divided into phonemic alphabet. This is a helpful way to reduce the often varied pronunciations of voiced/ unvoiced consonants and vowels/diphthongs. Some effective ways of teaching this is using tongue twisters, mouth diagrams, and modeling the sounds using your mouth.
