This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Whereas the previous unit focused on the receptive skills (reading and listening), this unit focused on productive skills (writing and speaking). Speaking usually presents the greatest difficulty but can also be the most rewarding when students are able to confidently express themselves with one another and the teacher. Many students experience shyness and other emotions that make them hesitant to speak; however, with varied activities that promote both fluency and accuracy, they can be encouraged to overcome some of their shyness. The most important aspect to consider with regards to speaking is creating a comfortable atmosphere that encourages participation. On a similar note, it is also important to foster students’ writing skills and incorporate activities in the lesson that will encourage them to write.
