Speaking and writing are productive skills used for communication. Writing is quite often neglected in ESL classes, but it is an important skill for students to master. Speaking lessons and activities have to be planned in an engaging and fun way for students to participate actively. During speaking lessons accuracy and fluency come at different stages of learning. Accuracy is introduced during study phase and is focused on producing correct language. Fluency comes later during the activate phase and concentrates on creative speech.Unit 7 gives an overview of teaching a new language and the role vocabulary, grammar and functions play in the learning aspect. I learned that there are many elements to teaching a new language and it starts with selecting the right vocabulary for your respective group. You would not teach high-level words to your students that have never experienced the most basic elementary words. This unit also reiterates the various techniqes that can be used i.e., ESA straight arrow, and patchwork to drive the learnings with different activities.
