Receptive skills such as reading and listening are essential to learning a language. Learning new words is important, but learning to recognize context and usage is equally useful. It isn't necessary, for instance, for a student to always recognize every word in a conversation if they can deduce the meaning from context. By pre-teaching vocabulary, selecting texts according to the skill and interests of the student, and by motivating the student with comprehension tasks, the teacher can greatly facilitate the learning of receptive skills.I like that this unit is very straightforward, yet still helpful in terms of the proper materials needed to provide for your students. As a beginner teacher, it would be helpful for me to have a course book because it'll give a sense of direction when teaching the students. overtime though, I will need to review the course beforehand so I can later add on supplements to the lessons. That way, I can create activities along the way and use lessons from the book only when it is necessary to the subject that I am trying to teach specifically.
