This unit discussed the different types of learning materials and its advantages and disadvantages. There is a variety of materials that can be used for teaching, such as course books, authentic materials, and created materials. Course books are often used, and they have clearly advantages such as providing a tested and graded syllabus. Even though there is a wide variety of ESL books, the teacher should always consider different factors when selecting a course book. For example, methodology is important, as it should fit in the ESA plan.After learning about this unit, I think it would be very fun to teach Business English. It would be a nice challenge, and even though they might be tired and feel 'forced' to be there, it would be enjoyable to see the progress they make and hopefully further their careers. I have taught for a long time, so I am already aware of some of the struggles that students have before they make it to class. Even though we can't control what happens to them outside of class, we can praise their accomplishments, and show them that we care about them.
