This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I enjoyed watching the video's of both lessons. Lesson 1 made me feel very uncomfortable as the teacher was very abrubt adn not very interested in helping the students or really explaining the material very well at all. He was also ill prepared for the lesson and did not interact with the students much. Lesson 2 was very enjoyable. The interaction with the students and the fact that the teacher was prepared for the lesson made a difference. The students was also much more willing to interact with the teacher as he made them feel more at ease and relaxed.I found this unit important as it showed me the effect that a teacher's attitudes and teaching styles can have on the students he/she is teaching. A lack of involvement from the students can result in disinterest and confusion. So it is important to involve students, give them praise when they answer correctly, or even for attempting to answer, and if they answer incorrectly, prompting them to the correct one. Use of flash cards, asking questions, learning the students names on a one to one basis, all this and more can make a huge difference in the classroom.
