This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on the forms, usage and common errors of the past tense. This unit was much like unit 4 which focused on the present tense. These two tenses are vital to student communication. They also provide a lot of challenges for the students. Particularly the usage of past perfect and past perfect continuous tense. This is probably due to the fact that most languages (for example Asian languages), do not have at many ways to use the tenses. This unit covered the importance of speaking and writing skills in the classroom and along with that, the difference between accuracy and fluency activities. I learned some key points regarding writing skills and the struggles English learners have with spelling and punctuation, given that English is not a phonetic language. Creative writing should be encouraged and games are a fun way to engage and motivate the students in their learning process.
