This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit Eleven primarily focused on Receptive and Productive skills. Receptive skills are both listening and reading, while productive skills are speaking and writing. All four of the skills are equally important parts in learning and mastering a language. Each skill should be learned relatively in conjunction with the other skills. The teacher needs to be able to look ahead to anticipate problems that the students may encounter while learning these skills as well as have solutions to combat these problems. This unit focuses on pronunciation and phonology. The process of breaking down sentences is amazingly complex, and the phonetic alphabet is very much not what I expected at all. I question the utility of having full sentences in phonetic (mainly because as an English speaker, it genuinely hurt my brain trying to figure them out, and I can't imagine shoving this in front of a non-native speaker and expecting anything other than confusion). They have their purpose, but it's definitely not in sentence form.
