Modal Auxiliary verbs are can, could, may might, shall, would, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't and ought to. They are used before other verbs to add meaning to the verb. They are used to express a number of ideas, such as, obligation, possibility/probability, permission/prohibition, ability and advice. Modal verbs don't change in form according to the person and are followed by the verb in its base form.
Verbs have two voices in English, the active voice and the passive voice. In the passive voice, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. In the active voice the focus is on the agent but in the passive voice it is on the subject. The passive voice is most frequently used when it is not known, not known, or we don't want to say exactly who performs an action.
