This unit covered receptive skills. Before starting the unit, I didn't know what the receptive skills were. After reading the unit I can clearly understand what the skills are. I also realized that my own language teachers have used many of the techniques discussed in the text. Before we would cover a story in the target language, my teachers would make sure that we had a list of all of the vocabulary that we needed to know for the reading. The text books where I am teaching now also employ a similar technique, with the vocabulary clearly printed on the side of the page in which it appears. I also thought that the ESA lesson offered in the text seemed very interesting for teaching students at higher levels. The use of pop culture from other countries seems like a good tool to keep student's interest in the lesson.
