This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
What I learned in this unit was exactly how complicated our language is. This will help me put myself into the shoes of other people who didn't grow up learning this. That empathy will help me in assisting my students. To help them learn and to understand when they struggle. Knowing the basics of grammar is the foundation required for teaching a language. With this and the knowledge of what makes good learners and good teachers I now have a base to build upon. This was by far the most interesting unit, explaining phonetics and pronunciation. it gives a lot of detail information about sound production, which is interesting to know for the teacher but will mostly not be taught to the students. Many examples of different sounds in the English language and their phonetic origin are given, as well as teaching advice. It is also advised for the teacher to study the phonemic alphabet to be able to teach it to the students.
