I found this useful with regard to planning - not a rigid structure but rather giving some order (and timing) for each procedure, allowing for changes that may crop up. I think one or two alternative activities should be included, however there may only be time for one - especially if the students enjoy it and you decide to just stick with discussions/activities around that. Planning in this way will ensure that you have the correct aids/materials at hand, and assist with the flow of activities.
Of course if changes are made to the plan they should be documented, also so that you have a record of what was covered on that day.Useful to look back on, and invaluable should another teacher have to take over your classes. Lessons should also be planned so that they fit in with previous lessons and lessons still to come.
